I know this isn't exactly in the right section but I was wondering, are there any "Masters" here on the forums? I've seen a few Experts but no Masters...

More about : thgc masters

There most likely would be if every post from the older members was counted as being worth 4 points when they brought out the new points system in the first place.

There was a sighting of god running around the Forum wearing wooden shoes recently.

What about Crashman. His post count is outrageous. Although most of his posts were before he started doing reviews for toms hardware.

Badge, I have to say you fulfill your position as Forum Jester quite well  . But anyway, there really is no Master yet?
September 14, 2011 2:56:31 AM

Not yet at least..as long as the Bulldozer Rumors thread keeps going...we may see some later this year!

I expect the 3 or 4 front runners to reach Expert in less than two years.

Me? Maybe 4 years - if I live that long or Alzheimer's doesn't set in. I'm 65. :)
September 14, 2011 5:49:16 AM

I have mastered the alcoholic arts, dose that count? :p
September 14, 2011 5:53:24 AM

Been here 9 years now myself, one of the old hands. Unfortunately the software update didnt include "time joined" or reintegrate the posts of old into the "scoring" protocol. ;)  not that it matters in the grand scheme of things?
September 14, 2011 6:22:23 AM

What is it with the members who joined on January 1, 1970...when the internet was just a minor protocol? If I understand correctly, that is a Unix time error?
September 14, 2011 6:50:55 AM

No. We are simply really old-timers.

My first digital computer was 4 fingers and a thumb.

Had to take my pants off to count to 21. That's why women should be inherently better at math. They can count higher.
September 14, 2011 7:53:41 AM

You understand incorrectly, :p

Most people with that join date joined before the software upgrade on the forums and it did not transfer over. so Alot of people are stuck with that date, lol.

It was the time of the great purge and the world was in chaos and disorder reigned everywhere ... buildings burned and the air was heavy with sulphur ... the sound of women and children sobbing as they were lead to the pens was only overshadowed by the screaming of the wyverns as they fed ... frequently ...

... er sorry bout that ...

Seriously though ... I wouldn't take his wallet or drug him.

Ok ... I wouldn't take his wallet .. .wait ... I probably wouldn't take all of the money in his wallet ... and mrface could hold him down then mrface could take the drugs.

We will debate this further so please wait in the line next to the guy in the wetsuit.

I am only 32 so i suspect that i will be master at some point... When i am not so swamped at work cuz i have been SLACKING on the threads here... I will be back full force working toward my "masters" come the end of fall :)
September 14, 2011 3:56:10 PM

Being a "master" is a state of mind. I think many of us feel we are indeed "masters" in our own minds, anyway.

However, when I go home, my "master" of 26+ years reminds me of my wrongness (which is the key to marital bliss........always being wrong even when you are right, and admitting it) and I am demoted to house lackey!

think i saw the following phrase somewhere here on Tom's but it is a good phrase nonetheless!

If a man says something in the woods and there is no woman around to hear it, is he still wrong?
September 14, 2011 4:26:44 PM

Yeah in of the guys on here has that as his sig, can't remember who it was though.....

You're just saying that because it is true

I can't do drugs I can't pronounce (at least, not any more), and you have to ask the little woman to get any cash out of my wallet; that is, if you can get past the dust and the mold (and the Hun, errr, Hon).

You know....When my wife was in the Army. I had money and she had money.

When my wife got out of the Army....she had money.

Any questions? Master that! HOOAH!!!
September 14, 2011 8:58:50 PM

You know... When my wife....

Wait, i've never been married. I have plenty of money.

ooooorah!
September 15, 2011 4:22:16 AM

The key to marital bliss is to let the woman talk and talk and talk and vent as much as possible. When you get to stressed, ask for a deployment... :p

Yeah ... look what it did to us.

I still have nightmares ... mostly about the food and every now and then about repelling.

I am sure some of us are more "repelling" than others, but when I was a "rappel master" back in the day I never dropped anyone, even when conducting Australian style rappels (face forward).

Actually got to "save" my wife on a rappel one time (she was a cadet at the time) due to an entanglement when she was descending. I was her "hero". Maybe that is why she has tolerated me for so long......

September 16, 2011 2:59:55 AM

Problem is, I do not see myself in military. Call me unpatriotic, but I do not feel a calling to service.
September 16, 2011 4:07:29 AM

It isn't unpatriotic to choose to not serve in the military. Thats why it is a choice. A volunteer corps. Whoever has said that it is unpatriotic to not serve doesnt know how our country works too well...

September 16, 2011 4:12:27 AM

So, what can I do to be patriotic? What is seen a great service to one country?
September 16, 2011 4:22:40 AM

Well, all patriotism really is, is devotion to country. It doesnt mean service of country. If that were so only about 1-2% of USA's population would be patriots.
September 16, 2011 4:26:17 AM

Well, let me restate that, because that is kind of incorrect. In terms of military service to the country only 1-2% would be patriots. There are other ways to serve the country. Judges, Policeman, Meter Maids, any form of government service is technically, service to the country.
September 16, 2011 4:39:17 AM

So a government job is patriotic. I think Obama would hug you for that! :p
September 16, 2011 4:43:39 AM

No I didnt say that. I said patriotism is devotion to the country. A government job is a job in the government. There is a distinct difference, lol. :p

You can be unpatriotic and work for the government or be patriotic and not work for the government, or be unpatriotic and not work for the government or be patriotic and work for the government, haha. They are not inherently intertwined.

While not deployed or fulfilling my military duties, I hold a government civilian job(I am a guardsmen.) That doesnt make me more or less patriotic than any other person.

I do however, hold great regard for our country and am highly devoted to its success.
September 16, 2011 4:46:48 AM

So, a universal definition of a patriot is one who has high regards for their country? so, would that make me a patriot?
September 16, 2011 4:56:02 AM

Again, not high regard, devotion... If you are devoted to your country, you are a patriot. Are you devoted? Then yes you are a patriot.

:)  Patriotism is similar to nationalism without the political connotation.

Joining the military and serving your country does not necessarily make you a patriot. Serving in an official government capacity does not make you a patriot. Devotion to your country (and in some case to the brink of your life) makes you a patriot. However, you do not need to be in the military to do that.

Devotion and service are two different things. One is a requirement for patriotism and the other is not.
September 16, 2011 5:09:02 AM

Any ways of becoming a patriot?
