I want to get a geforce2 ULTRA card soon, but I keep hearing about all the 2d problems. Are there any brands that DON'T have the problem? Does the Hercules card have the 2d problems?
Also, does anyone know any webpages with DETAILED instructions on doing the RIF mod?
As a "proud owner" of GTS I can tell that any of GTS cards have far better 2D than any card that was released 3 years ago, so if you are still uzing one of zose, you will not regret. Some body could tell ya, Radeon is king in 2D, but some body could tell ya, who cares. So ya can have ferrary that gives ya 200 mph but not pulls 4 ton cart behind, or you can have a truck that will give ya 100 mph and will pull the cart. You deside now.

I think he was asking if any companies make GeForce's that just aren't too good, but you are right..A GTS would be fine. Though if he isn't going for Ultra, and playing a lot of 32 bit games...i'd say go for Radeon 64 DDR (retail)
As far as brand goes, there is not much (if at all) difference between them. Elsa makes the best ones though as far as 2D goes (that's what I've read, did not see it myself). I have Asus 7700 one, it is fine, almost as sharp as Matrox at work. It is really hard to notice the difference if PCs are not side by side. Anyway, Radeon will do it, but I hear a lots of drivers issues with W2k and BX boards.
So all the brands are the same? Another question, when playing a 3d game, are the textures affected by the poor 2d? Do they seem blury, or is it only evident on true 2d games/applications.
Here is a site with some more info about the primary cause of the slight bluriness. It is the band-pass filter at the output designed to prevent excess radiation. Anyways, for the afflected or the curious, here is the site: http://www.geocities.com/porotuner/imagequality.html Good Luck, Take_Out
The early bird gets the worm. The early worm gets the bird.
You are probably right. The primary reason I bought the Ultra was the DVI connection for my TFT display. I have been very satisfied with it for both 2d and 3d.
