am running Windows XP SP 2, 1GB ram, 2x200mb Sata hard disks, Norton
Systemworks 2003, all the latest windows updates, upto date anti-virus def's,
Zonealarm Pro and MS Antispyware.

when the pc starts up i can open a some programs then when i try others the
pc hangs for 3/4 minutes before they open up. when they do eventually open
all is ok.

but for example when i try to reboot the pc the machine hangs again! if i
try to force the shutdown/reboot the programs that i try to open all start to
open up.

i have tried to limit the number of programs that start up, i have also
adjusted the size of the page file (virtual memory) but i still get the same
problems.

does anyone have any suggestions?
