Why do u needa router for a laptop

Hello,I HAVE A OLD LAPTOP I HAVE FREE INTERNET BUT ITS NOT PICKING UP ITS STATING I NEED A ROUTER NOW I DONT NEED NO PHONE LINE IF I GET THE ROUTER

whats stating you need a router? im not sure how you would connect to it if you dont have a wireless router or are using an ethernet cable and not a phone line... but if the laptop has wireless on it the only way you can connect to the wirless is if there is no wireless key or it is using wep which is all that is supported on older laptops. 802.11 b is the only connection you can get limiting you to about 5mbps which slow. and using wep and open is a bad idea since wep can be hacked into in seconds. very confusiing on what you mean tho

A lot of apts have free internet.
You do need to have the password to gain access to the buildings router.
So ask for that password. They may also have a sheet that gives the steps to follow.

What OS or version of windows is installed on your laptop?
