If you do a system repair with XP, your personal files will not be altered including game files, however, I have been told that although your game files will be OK-intact(saved missions, etc.), you will still have to reinstal your games.
(something relating to where the game is installed in the registery, etc)
Is this correct? Meaning, will you still have to reinstal your games?
I've done a system repair with WinXP Pro and didn't loose or have to reinstall anything. However I was more concerned with the loss of critical files, and personal files that I didn't want to loose period, so whether a game will still function, I'm not absolutely positive about.

If you use the built in repair (non-console) using xp home (and I'm sure xp pro) XP, in many caases, will have altered your prior install to the degree that it appears that you have to reinstall.
XP repairs are hap-hazard as it is now. Sometimes you can't repair an install. Other times you can repair it but you loose your prior stuff, and then there are times when you repair and retain everything.
No one has adequately laid out for me the cause and effect with the xp repair.
A repair install will delete all drivers and system files and then re-install Windows system files and drivers, some programs don't seem to mind this and others you will not have any joy with, however if you have game saves etc once you re-install that game I am sure most of the time you will have access back to that save.
Hey, just do it, I have done repair install so many times to know there is no danger, and really have not lost anything important.
Sometimes you have no choice!
