Hello everyone,
Please could somebody point me in the right direction
I have 2 linksys wireless 802.11b usb adapters which are working quite
happily
between 2 machines. 1 winxp pro the other win2000 pro, the signal
strength is very good and both can talk to each other. however i cant
seem to share the internet connection, the host is win 2000, I know
there is nothing wrong with the settings because i can share the
internet connection if I unplug the adapters and use cable to network
them, we are using ISDN. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
in advance

Chris,
Are your adapters connecting in ad-hoc mode, or do you have a router too?
What are you using to share the internet connection? A proxy on the host? I
know Linksys has said something about not supporting use of their adapters to
share internet service from an ICS (Win XP) host. Might be similar problem with
a proxy.
Need to dig back in my articles library and see if I can find the Linksys
article / reference.
You have ISDN, and 2 computers. Connecting the two computers with a router is
the responsible solution.
All computers will be safer. The router will block any malevolent internet
traffic. This further protects the internet, from your becoming infected and
spreading the infection. Particularly with Blaster and Sasser worms, and who
knows what is coming next - without a NAT router, you're a sitting duck.
All computers will run better, with the router blocking the trash infection
traffic.
All computers will run independent of each other. To share your internet
service in ad-hoc mode, you have to have one computer on whenever you wish to
access the internet from any other. With a router, this will not be the case.
Right now, a NAT router can be bought for the price of 1 - 2 months internet
service.
If you can afford to have more then one computer, you can afford a router. For
many reasons.
And Chris, please don't contribute to the spread of email address mining
viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit
safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - never post your address unmunged.
