Ok so I decided to play with Linux.
I downloaded Mandrake Linux no problem with install but:
My ATI Radeon 9800 on my EPoX8K3A is shown as as PCI VESA card. The ATI drivers don't seem to work so what gives?
Please be gentle I know nothing about Linux but like what I see so far.
Thanks,
Steve

I'd be betting that Mandrake doesn't ship with a Radeon 9800 compatible driver, so uses it's VESA driver as a last resort. If the other ati drivers don't work, it sounds like you need to do one of 2 things:
1) Install <A HREF="http://www.ati.com" target="_new">ATI</A>'s own <A HREF="http://mirror.ati.com/support/drivers/linux/radeon-linux.html?type=linux&prodType=graphic∏=productsLINUXdriver&submit.x=9&submit.y=9&submit=GO!" target="_new">driver</A> (use whichever version matches your distro's XFree86 package)
2) Install <A HREF="http://www.xig.com" target="_new">Xi Graphics</A> Accelerated-X Server

Another thing to try is asking/checking the <A HREF="http://www.mandrakeclub.com/" target="_new">Mandrake Forums</A>, for more targeted and system specific help.

I tried again the ATI drivers and they make no difference.
I still have a VESA card.
What gives?

That's what I'm guessing.

You normally have to edit your XF86Config file (in /etc/X11/XF86Config) and change the graphics driver manually. Post the contents of the file and maybe we can help.
