I need a recommendation for a video card for my machine, that I use for software development, not gaming. I currently am running a Diamond Monster Fusion PCI video card with 16 mb on an ASUS P5A MB, w/768 mb RAM. I am
using a Sony G500 monitor at 1280x1024px (at 32 bit).

My problem is that I need to have several windows open at once, but i am continually getting "Error creating picture errors".

What would be a video card that would support my setup? PCI or AGP? Any recommendations would be helpful.

Thanks

Sounds like a OS problem to me. When your in 2D mode (like regular windows) and your not running 3D Apps, the video card uses almost no memory. The video card and system RAM swap so that you can have an unlimited amount of space for video. Anyways, I seriously doubt it has anything to do with your video card.

I do mostly VB DCom development and have started messing with JSP & EJB.
Try to expand my horizons.

My cpu is a "blazing fast" AMD K-6 350 mhz.

I have been wondering about the possibility of it being a VM/paging file problem,
but a rather persuasive argument got me thinking about the possibility of of it
being video related.

Of course, we all know how reliable and error free Windows is, so we know
that can't be the problem. And if you believe that.....

If you spend alot of time in front of your monitor in 2d then Matrox 450 I would highly recommend to you. The best commercial quality 2d card. Plus get one with dual head to give you more working space on a dual monitor setup.

yeah. i built the machine first, than recently decided to invest in a quality monitor
'cause my other one died. Then I realized "hey, every time I do stuff, I spike out
the little RAM I have, and since RAM is cheap..." Building your own machine is
a slippery slope. After having read others post about what cards they like and
don't like, I have decided to upgrade my MB and CPU. By then the GeForce3
boards will be out and the GeForce2 cards will (hopefully) come down in price.

This is like starting with a Pinto to get to a Cadillac.

yeep, it's the life thing: you got married, then kids, then you need a house, then cars for kids, then money to put them in college, then.... nice place on the cemetery... hehehe
