Thanks all...

Hi, thanks for your input. I have determined that the problem is the computer. Its not connected to the network, the network cable is fine and the port is fine. There is no lite on the back of the cpu. I can't fix it.

I'd say you going to have to wait for your sys admin to get back from vacation, but you don't have more than 1?

I believe there is only one person working on the computers, where my sister works. Thanks

make sure the computer has an ip address, make sure you can ping and all that good stuff.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.

OK, thanks. I also told her to chech out the help in the windows. That should keep her busy, if she still wants to try to fix it.

Some simple things to try:

-Using Network Neighborhood/My Network Places (*NOT my computer*) can you see the server? If so, then the drive mapping for the client machine is incorrect. Fix by right-clicking on My Computer on desptop and restoring what was already there--don't type anything new and make sure that you choose the correct drive leter.

-If you cannot see the server in net neighborhood can you see any other network resources? printers, other servers, etc? If so, then the problem is most likely with the server. If not then the machine in question may not be properly connected to the network or the domain/workgroup name being used at logon (even if automatic) is incorrect. Both of these issues will be hard to fix on your own.

You can also go and physically log onto the server itself. You might find that it's crashed and needs a restart, or something more serious has happened. If you do log onto the server and feel the need to restart it make sure that you shut it down in an orderly fashion (Start-shutdown).

Try replacing the cable or seeing if there is any conflicts in device manager with the NIC.

It's my sister's computer at work. She said she can't fix it. It's not her job to go out of her way to fix it. But, with everybody's help she has determine to leave it alone, and let someone els fix it. So, that puts an end to this post.
Thanks again.
