Hi Guys,

I have gotten hung up trying to get started with Visual Basic.net Standard,
Version 2003.

When I try to open VBnet, I get …

“MS Development Environment has not been installed for the current user.
Please run setup to install the application.

I have rerun the setup programs on both the preliminaries disk and the
application disk to no avail.

I am aware of a work around to this problem from the MSDN web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313495

It says:

To resolve this issue, you must edit the registry on your computer.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
1. On the Start menu, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. In the Registry Editor, locate and delete the following registry
key:HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Licenses\C4B8C1BC-A36C-4723-AF48-F362BFAB9DF5
3. Close the Registry Editor, and then start Visual Studio .NET.

All the development guys say any fix must begin with a reinstall. But, when
I run the application’s uninstall program, I get …

“Setup is unable to determine a valid ordering for the installation. See the
error log for details

There is nothing in the error log regarding this application.

So my advice was to contact the WinXP guys, and here I am.

How do I get VB off my system if its own uninstall program will not do it?
If there is no way, it would be useful to hear that from an expert. What is
the best way to proceed if I want to use my VB software?

I would run a Repair setup of XP, then install VB again.
