Is there any opinions on the "best" wireless router for typical home use.
Say using it in a two story house with typical floor and wall framing to go
through? Or are they all about the same?
Is there a company (Linksys? D-Link? Netgear?) that seems to have more power
and better wireless coverage that the others?

The transmitter power is limited by law, performance very much depends on
local situation and positioning of router and receiver.
Consider using USB wifi adapters on end of a cable, much easier to position
for best signal, half an inch can make a difference.
Draytek Vigor 2600G router has all the features and is very reliable, if
slightly more expensive.
Proxim Orinoco is renown for good PC Cards and USB adapters (their routers
are very expensive).
Avoid Netgear, unless you enjoy forever updating the firmware.

Martin

The Senao 2611CB3 Plus is rated at 200mW as are their high-power cards.

Not only 100mW, but 100mW EIRP, so you have to take the
aerial gain and cable losses into account as well.
