To Tom's Hardware Community

I need your help to set up a network at home to play games and share files using crossover cable connection. My computer runs Windows Me and the other Windows XP. So far the computers can see themselves but they are not able see each other. Please help. What am I doing wrong?

the first color is the dominant one. I got it from this website. I've actually seen that scheme before, and agreed with you at the time that it was a bit confusing but I guess I've gotten used to it and didn't think about it being confusing to a newbie. Sorry.

If they say there's a white stripe on the orange one it must be on the inside with the copper =).

I can't be 100% sure but I think I've seen pairs where the solid wire actually had a tiny bit of white on it.
