help.....I know it's maybe the wrong NG, but could you help or direct
me to the right one.
This morning I tried to burn data to a DVD......only burnt the intro then
stopped with a error.
Tried again ... same thing...
Virus checked, spyware checked, all OK
Did a sfc scannow, did a system restore to 2 days ago.
Tried again, same results.
Un-installed Nero and removed all traces from registry.
Reloaded Nero.
Tried again, same results.
I can burn to DVD-RW and CD-RW and CD-R but not DVD+ or DVD-
I am adding the error message, I know its long but in other posts it has
been said that not enough info is given.
Nothing unusual happened at shutdown last night or bootup this morning.
Problems seem to start at 8:48:15 AM #21
I don't know how to interpret this data, hoping someone can help.
TIA
Thanks again
Mike

"You may need to update the firmware for the RW drive "
What is firmware? do you mean drivers?
The DVD writer only came with a Nero disk.

No, I don't mean drivers... The firmware is info that is on a chip in the
unit itself, like a bios chip on the motherboard. Ok, to check your firmware
version go here and get nero info tool.
http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/NeroInfotool/NeroInfoTool_221.zip
and go here to see how to read the drive string and firmware ver.
http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/NeroInfotool/neroinfotool.html
and post your results or go to the recorder drives OEM web site to see if a
firmware update is available.

Hi ! Again
Downloaded all 6 parts of Nero 6.6 and installed, still same problem.
If I delete the DVD writer from device manager and reboot will " found new
hardware " pick it up again and install drivers?
Could someone throw some light on " Focus or tracking error" below.
Could the lenses have moved, have used a cleaning disc.

Jaymon mentioned checking the "firmware' what is that?

Both drives are LG
Did have Nero Info Tool, was downloaded in the Nero 6.6 packet, but did not
now what it was for.

Results of Nero Info Tool

DVD Writer
ID String [1:0] D:\ DT-ST DVDRAM GSA 4081B
Firmware A100

DVD Player
ID String [1:0] E:\ Hl-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4521B
Firmware 1.05

Question
Should both firmware's be the same?

Will check LG website.
Will be back later
Mike

Ok, both firmwares don't and will not be unless the drives are identical. The
firmware will be unique to the drives model#/id string. I would recommend you
contact a customer service tech and give them the ID string and firmware ver
as posted here and let them give you a link to the update.

There are firmware hacks and patches that can harm your drives and void any
warranties or make it impossible to re-flash the proper firmware update, so,
be careful..

I am not sure where you are ie country, but if in the USA see the link below:
http://www.lge.com/support/gcscWrite.jsp
Or, if in another country see the link below and add your location:
http://www.lge.com/support/online_cust_serv.jsp

I think it would be wise to let their customer representative confirm the
proper firmware update for your devices, if they are needed or even available
for one or both drives.
