desktop keep flashing

I haven't done anything to my computer since yesterday, when I switch on my
computer this morning, the desktop bar and the desktop background keep
flashing on and off, like it's refreshing.
I am using windows xp professional, and have checked errors and viruses,
everything seems to be ok.
Do I need to reinstall windows? Is there anything I can do instead of that?
For windows xp, could I repair windows? I can only find reinstalling in the
same directory....
