Do you think I will see a boost in performance by upgrading to a Ge Force 2 Mx 400 64 meg or the Kryo 2 64 meg from my Vodoo 3 3500?

I hope so. I had that card and ahd awful frame rates in QIII Arena. I upgraded to Geforce 2 Pro and evrything is better! FPS went from 25 to over 90. I'm not sure how much better the MX would be. I think you'de still see an improvement. But in Tom's benchmarks, the Kyro II did really well, and in 32 bit pretty much outperformed Geforce 2Pros. Wish I'd seen a month earlier when I shelled out 200 for my card. Oh well, it performs nicely and I can't complain. Hope this helps.

BTW - What kinda cpu and how much ram? They'll have to be decent to take advantage of a vid card upgrade but you don't need too much. Athlon 600 or better should be good enough.

No man stands so tall, as when he stoops to tweak his rig.

Well, it really depends on your current system specs...
But if you upgrade to either one of those two cards, you'll be able to play games at 32bit, which indeed is a nice change from the Voodoo3 3500... Plus, the image quality is most likely higher than the Voodoo3. The Kyro II seems to be particularly rich in features if you ask me... It also supports FSAA, which I think would be pretty cool to have. The down side of that is that I'm not sure how long FSAA would be around for...

Well my specs are this: Athalon 900 T-Bird. (not over clocked) 128 ram Abit Board. Creative Live 5.1 gamer sound card, and the slow 3500 VooDoo 3....

If I get the Ge Force 2 it will be the 400 with 64 meg ram. Is the T & L feature a real big deal to have? The Kyro dose not have that but I think my cpu power can handle doing the T & L in software not on the card..

You will have a big boost in performance and in picture quality if you upgrade your card.
But, i think the geforce2 mx 64mb is better then the kyro2,
because like your teling the kyro2 didn't have a t&l engine, and the upcoming games will use the t&l seriusly , so so go for it, choose the mx, it's a litle bit slower than the kyro2 but i preffer it.

All the reports of the Kyro 2 and the Ge Force 2 mx have been with the 32 meg and not the 400 64 meg card. The ge force 2mx 400 might have a longer span of life with the games in the futre.. I have a feeling th Kryo might be like another Voodoo.....I think alot of the games in the futre will be mainly written to support the GeForce chip set. Then they will be done with less in mind for the Kryo ....

Yeah, the Kryo II is cool and all, but nVIDIA is dominating the markets and the future would probably be brighter for an nVIDIA card. The Geforce 2MX 400 sounds like a good way to go if you're looking for something not TOO expensive that's nVIDIA. Kryo II is pretty cheap compared to the nVIDIA cards but it isn't as popular.

Now I have to pick the Ge-Force card that will take about a year with all the choices...

Boost in performance - yes, boost in compatibility - no. I have Asus 7700 and V3. With V3 I can play any thing I can find in my house, with 7700 some games (Midtown Madness, some other) having problems big time, textures blinking, distortions, blah, blah. In UT it is visible if you pay attention to the lights, they are kinda playing hiding-showing game. But those are older ones and V3 is more then enough for older games, but cannot handle newer ones - not enough power. That is where anything with GF+ comes in to play. So if you were planning to play hard with new games, I would go for it, otherwise I would not even consider anything yet. It is just that I start playing SOF and Quake3 a little, so I got myself a faster card, but playing everything else with V3 still.
I don’t care what any body says, it is just the best there is for any game 1+ years old for me... heh

Have fun unda da sun.

Post, we'll do the "search"...

I get a hesitation with my card when I play Black and White. When I scroll around the world it is like the game has to catch up to my movements. That sucks. I have a fast pc I think it is the Video card. If I turn the game to low res it dose not do it but it looks like crap....So what do you thing the Ge Force or the Kryo?
