Just installed XP and I'm having trouble with Windows Messenger. I prefer to use MSN Messenger, so I installed this and uninstalled the Windows version. Problem is, its still connecting, even though there is no Windows Messenger icon running in the taskbar. People can still see when I'm online, and when I startup MSN Messenger, it first signs me out of passport 'cos of another application' or something.

Whats going on?

if you want to use MSN IM and not win IM then just go START>SEARCH>ALL FILES AND FOLDERS>WINDOWS MESSENGER
and delete all the win IM files it's tah easy

I actually found an easier and more conventional way of disabling it. Running GPEDIT.MSC and going to Administrative Templates ---> Windows Components actually lets you disable it in there.

Thanks anyway!

I was about to suggest services.msc and disable it on startup... but yeah :)
