SFC /scannow cannot find install CD

SFC /scannow says it needs to copy some files to the DLL cache but when I
insert the CD it says it is the wrong CD. The CD is fine and is the correct
one (MSDN subscription) and there is not a hardware problem with the CD on
any disks.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If the dll's are related to SP2 this may be the problem, if your original XP
setup disk is pre XP SP2.. Is it the retail ver or an OEM XP setup disk that
you have?

You may be prompted to insert a Windows XP Professional CD when you run the
System File Checker tool in Windows XP Home Edition

Hi Denny,

The only CD I have is the install CD which is not SP-2 but the computer does
have SP-2 update installed.

Then slipstream the SP1 CD with the SP2 download and burn a new SP2 CD.

How to slipstream SP2 into XP
1...download SP2 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/winxpsp2.mspx#EABCAA
2..go here for detailed instructions
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/
look for Bootable Windows XP installation CD-Rom (with SP1)and sub SP2
for SP1

works great and easy

It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about
the problem
