I have been trying to reinstall winxp and everytime it crashes. it doesn't always crash at the same phase, however, and does give the same error msg. I have yet to get as far as the partioning screen, but i can almost always get to the first reboot. sometimes i get a IRQL_not_less_than_equal error, sometimes it's totally different. has this happend to anyone before?

System specs:
gigabyte ga-7va motherboard
athlon 1.4
512 ram
20gb maxtor hdd

That happened to me on a fresh install of XP Pro. It was maddening! It turned out that I had a bad stick of RAM - it was intermittent, so it would post for the BIOS, but then would get wonky when the OS tried to use it.

Use some other computer to set up a floppy with Memtest86, and see if that might be your problem. If you've got a corrupt installation of XP, not much to do but format the drive and try again.

Good luck,
