Do these scores seem low?

ok, kinda long

this are my results using the Torture map of Half-Life.
FPS
D3D: HL 800x600x32bpp@100Hz 49,479
OGL: HL 800x600x32bpp@100Hz 32,729
are those results low?
before the timedemo starts, the game gives me this message:
Your client side .dll [cl_dlls\client.dll] failed the CRC check. The .dll may be out of date or the demo may have been recorded using an old version of the .dll. Consider obtaining an updated version of the .dll from the system operator. Demo playback proceeding.

All the D3D and OGL settings are at their Defaults.
any help?

PS: If you want the .dem file I recorded, tell me. You need Hl and the Torture Map to play the demo.

I would except I don't play Half Life so I can't tell you if that is good or bad. How about testing with QuakeIII with High Quality and then Max quality(setting everything on high) so that I can get a feel for where you are at.

Well to eat your C   kie and have it too, gotta get Rade  n II

Why are you running a 1x AGP? That is a 5-10% boost going from 1x to 2x agp. Install the Via AGP drivers in turbo mode but make sure your motherboard bios AGP 4x Mode is set to Disabled.

Is this a Classic Athlon, a Duron or a T-Bird. Would help if you gave us what mobo you are using as well. A faster cpu with a Kyro2 makes a big difference. If you can upgrade to a faster cpu or overclock you will see big gains. Your cpu and the Kyro2 will perform pretty much the same as a MX graphic card computer with your cpu. Upping the processor to 1.2ghz will make your Kyro2 perform like an GF2 pro or Ultra in a number of games while the MX will perform relatively the same.

Well, it's a 750MHz Duron, an AOpen AK33 with the latest BIOS, I don't know how to overclock the duron (how to unlock the multiplier) and I'm working with the original Heatsink/Fan that came with the CPU. Also, I thougth that I was working at AGP2X mode.
I'm in the process of refubrishing the software end of the rig (my Win98 is stuck with DX8 and I installed W2k on the same partition for dual-booting, now I regret that) the scores are under W98.
Any opinions in? think ME will be better than W98SE if I fdisk the whole thing and start from naught?
How about turbo mode for via drivers? what does that do?
Thanks

Your adapter information in PowerStrip clearly shows you are operating at AGP 1x which is limiting you somewhat ~5-10%.

Turbo mode with your bios AGP 4x Mode set to disable will set the AGP to 2x.

Turbo mode with your bios AGP 4x Mode set to enable will allows AGP to be 4x, don't do that combination since the Hercules Kyro2 4500 is a 2x AGP card.

Normal mode regardless of bios AGP 4x Mode selection gives you AGP 1x, usually used only when server capatibility problems occur which will cost you some performance.

I Looked over your mobo manual, it doesn't have a cpu multiplier adjustment nor cpu voltage adjustments making it somewhat limiting for overclocking. You can download a software front side bus changer which will allow you to overclock somewhat later if you decide to. Still there are plenty of bios settings that should be able to kick you a few FPS here and there if they are not set correctly. Also have you flashed your bios to the most recent version, ak33r119.zip?

If not I recommend that you do. I know you said the most recent bios updated but just checking.

What memory are you using as in CAS2 or 3, PC100 or PC133?

If you can write down all your bios settings in the Advance Chipset Features section I can give you maybe a few pointers to increase your performance, let me know.

Buy a P4 1.7ghz and watch that score be 4x as high.

I only steal the princess cause she is hot ;*)

I don't know if they are low...

but you could try to improve your performance (I will try half life next... you must explain to me how you bench halflife...(I don't know how to do that)

if you try 1024x768x32 you must get the same performance
like 800x600x32 FSAAx2 try those...
they must remain with the same performance... kyro 2 will not be the bottleneck with those resolutions...

Windows build - v.4.10.67766222.1
is that windows 98 if it is you must not have any pci slots occupied close to the agp card
the pci slot that are next to the agp slot usually share a irq with the agp card...
try to left that slot empty

you could go here ...
http://www.paraknowya.com/specials/faq/
there are ways there to improve kyro performance a little...

Bios rev 119? Yep, alredy had it (for about a month and a half, 2 months)
Via 1.29 at AGP2X turbo mode? Now is checked
about memory... 1 PC100 CL3 128MB DIMM + 1 PC100 CL2 256MB DIMM

Abvout the BIOS settings: wait for my next post, I'll probably have new bench reports.

I'll try to find as many utilities for oc' but could you suggest me some? (BTW, is the aopen ax3s pro oc' friendly for a Celery Cumine 600?, I can't seem to be able to oc' the FSB to 100MHz on my other rig THANX :) )

Thanks

Yes, it's Win98, but after quite a bit of patches
No, there aren't any cards near the AGP slot (took out my Dxr2 to avoid trouble some time ago)
To bench in HL (im using version 1.1.0.6) you must enable the console (...\Half-Life\hl.exe -console in the path) then fire up the game using those parameters (called command-line parameters) and go to the console, write timedemo *** (*** being a demo previously recorded using the record console command while playing) and that's that ! :)

How about benchmarking with your new configuration with AGP2x. Should see some improvement. Each change should consist of some sort of test to see if you are improving performance and or lowering performance. Just fine tuning is all. For adjusting your FSB you can try the following program SoftFSB by H-Oda, you will need to know what system clock you have so that you can identify it to the program (matter of looking at information on the clock). Also available there is a plug/in for additional manufacturer clocks. I recommend you do this last after you optimize everything that you can.

how I get that Torture map of Half-Life?
it sounds that it's more cpu intensive than video card intenseive..
