Ive got to setup a LAN once we get an internet connection at my new house, and so far, it's going to be two PCs, and a mac. Now, PCs I can generally figure out since I'm ok with them, I've done a small network at my house before, but the MAC is what concerns me. It's an old school mac, but it's got a newer OS on it (forgive me, im not too big on them), but I did check the back (as it is one of those monitor + CPU in one unit thinggies), and it does have a RJ45 jack in it to network.

My question is, will a network be possible with all three computers, and are there some minimum requirements the mac will need or any special software, or will I be able to get all that setup via the pcs (special software-wise).

Sorry for my noobness.

Im guessing by your description of the mac that it is a 5xxx model. If your not sure, then you can look on the front. Im guessing, like, 5260. You can check the specs on this model at everymac.com. Anyway, to answer your question, it IS possible. The network interface on your mac is 10base, so if you are going to use a hub, you will need one than is 10/100, which shouldn't be too hard to achieve. The easiest OS to configure for LAN would be MacOS 8.5 or higher. Since your saying that it has a "newer" OS im guessing you probably are using OS 8.6. In this case, just plug it in and go! It will work automatically, given that you have your router, switch and/or hub hooked up right. Good LUCK!
