If I use backup on files like Outlook Express to restore messages, rules,
address book etc. onto a new clean reinstall do I have to preset all of the
files & folders that I had before or will the backup program do that as
well?

Thanks in advance

The End,

Try this question in OE6 newsgroups. Meanwhile, have a look at these backup
programs:

OEBackup: (free.. recommended)
http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx

Genie-Soft - Outlook Express Backup: (not a freeware...but fantastic
program that automates the entire backup.restore. I recommend this)

In addition to the programs Ramesh recommended, you may want to take a look
at an Outlook Express backup program that I, and many of our clients, have
been using for some time now. The program is called ABF Outlook Express
Backup and it's a program designed specifically for OE backup purposes. It's
a wonderful program, extremely simple to learn and use and quite effective
as an OE backup program. Not only does it backup your mail folders, but it
also backs up your Address Book, OE settings, Rules, Blocked Senders,
Stationeries, and even your Favorites. And it does so simply and quickly. The
program has an added advantage in that its backed-up OE data can be
copied/restored to another OE program on a different computer or different
drive.

We've been using various versions of it for nearly a year now (it's
frequently updated) and find it a most useful program. While one can find a
number of freebie, or near-freebie programs available for backing up OE, as
well as manual OE backup procedures, the simplicity, ease of operation, and
effectiveness in what it does make that ABF program very appealing to us.
Take a look at it at: http://www.abf-soft.com/outlook-express-backup.shtml

The cost of the program is $29.95 (download - $10 extra for the CD) and the
developers have a free 30-day evaluation download (slightly crippled)
available. I've found the program well worth its cost.

Thanks for posting Anna. The utility which I recommended (from genie-soft),
creates a single .exe so that the end-user can restore the OE
mails/address/rules everything very easily. BTW, ABF Outlook Express Backup
looks nice.

Ramesh:
And thanks for that tip re that genie-soft program. The creation of a single
executable file that restores OE completely is most intriguing. I've
downloaded their demo version and I'll be sure to give it a try.
