i have tried to install aol instant messenger all day from several
sites. everytime i try to install i get a message saying " not a valid
win 32 application " what does this mean and how do i fix it?

Most like a corrupt installer program causes this, or it's not for the right
platform. Redownload it and try installing again. Additionally, clear the
%TEMP% folder, and disable third-party download managers before downloading.
