Help and Support tells us that having too many restore points uses too much
(space?) (resources?). I'm wondering if it takes up just HD space, or does
it affect the amount of RAM when the computer is on?

System Restore will not impact the RAM memory available.
It does take HD space, the maximum being depending on your settings for System Restore.
The amount is expressed as a percentage of your disk space.
To see your settings: Go to your desktop. Do a right click on Properties. Select System Restore Tab.
See the settings for disk space usage.

I wonder what section of Help and Support you've looked at?
