I just built my own system. I have an Asus P4P800-x board with a Pentium 3.0
chip. I installed XP Pro SP2 on it. Now my problem is when I play a cd or
something or a media file saved on my computer the sound works fine. My
system sounds will not play though when I go into the control panel I can
view them but I cannot click on the little play button to preview the file.
I have opened the .wav files and they played through programs. I play games
and stuff I still have sound, but no sound on Internet Explorer.
I went through the help files I checked to make sure all of the right
drivers were installed that they were digitally signed and everything. Under
hardware everything is running fine. The are recognized in the control panel
in the sounds options so windows knows they were there.
I put in a Chaintech 7.1 Channel PCI 24HT-S Sound Card and installed the
drivers. But I had the above problem. (this is when I first built the
machine.) so I though maybe the onboard sound card was causing the problems
I disabled it in the bios and tried again nothing. So I pulled out the sound
card uninstalled the drivers for it enabled the onboard sound card for my
Asus board installed the drivers for that I think it is SoundMax and still
the same problem. I have checked everything that I can think of anything
that I saw on a message board and everything that windows help and support
suggested.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
