First off, my system specs:

Gigabyte GA-7ZX mobo w/ VIA KT133 chipset
1.0 GHz AMD Athlon (thunderbird)
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
Geforce2 mx 400 (32MB)
Integrated creative SB PCI128 sound
Primary master: 40 GB 5400 rpm maxtor harddrive
Primary slave: 10 GB 5400 rpm maxtor harddrive
Secondary Master: 52x cd-rom
Secondary slave: HP CD-burner
Linksys 10/100 NIC
300w PSU
Windows 2000 - SP3

Ok, now the problem:

CS locks up on me alot, after varying lengths of time. The only way i have to get out of it is to hit the reset button. I've tried reinstalling, i've reformatted, swapped out RAM sticks, tried a different geforce 2 card, uninstalled anti-virus... i've tried just about everything.
I play in OpenGL 1024x768 mode, EAX and A3D are both disabled. After reformat it wasn't locking up hardly at all until I installed norton anti-virus. Then it started locking up frequently again, so i uninstalled it and deleted all registry keys. Then it worked fine for a day or two... Now its locking up all the time again (I haven't installed anything new). I can play BF1942, starcraft, and warcraft without lockups... Its only Half-life mods that cause this.

Please someone help me out, cause this really blows. I've racked my brain trying to figure it out and have gotten pretty much nowhere.

If it is the sound chip, disable it in bios then play for awhile to see if it freezes up.

i got it fixed, a fellow cs bud gave me this link from microsoft as a 'shot in the dark' solution, and thankfully its what worked. Its a problem associated with AMD athlons and Nvidia or matrox graphics cards. Check out the link if you're curious.
