The price of the Prophet Kyro II 4500 is only $10 USD less than the MSI Starforce 815 Geforce2 GTS 32DDR locally. Do not know abt the MSI card though as it seems to be so much cheaper than the rest of the GTS cards. Please advice lads...or any other cards at that price range ?

More about : kyro gts

Heard the MSI cards are very good price/performance. Give up some features, but not performance. You cannot go wrong with the GTS. On the Kyro II, I'd be hesitant to recommend since I had a few problems with it, and so do others.

I am intending to piece a new computer together...as i do a lot 3D rendering and animation in my schoolwork, i have to be careful to get the best out of a tight budget for a graphic system. also pretty confused over PIII 1 Ghz of the P4s. or using DDR/RD ram.

Can't understand why you would buy either the P3 or the P4, I'd buy a Duron before I'd buy either of those.

Negaverse23 is asking about the speed of your PC because the Kyro2 has no T&L engine. The CPU does all the work on this. You need at minimum 800Mhz to get the full benfit of the card. I can't talk from personal experience but I am impressed with the Kyro (reviews and comments from experienced users who can deal with the minor problems).

I'd go with the GTS. If you're on a tight budget go with an AMD cpu you'll get more bang for buck (for example KT7A mob and an 800M duron which you can o/c to 1Gig) If the budget will stretch goto a DDR mobo/Athlon, but don't forget if you're rendering the more RAM the better too.

Just upgraded on a budget for a friend, gigabyte GA71Xe4 mobo, duron 800 now o/c to 920M , 640M Ram, less then £200 including HS/Fan and lube.

Look at the size of that thing!

The GTS would be a better all around choice than the Kyro II currently.

AMD processors are faster at 3d rendering and a lot cheaper to boot. Use the money you save over buying a more expensive Pentium system to get a better video card, which will also help your rendering speed. Below I've outlined 2 comparable systems in the apps you're probably interested in.

1.2 Ghz Tbird = $98
A7V266 mobo = (unknown, estimating $130. But you can get a cheaper kt266 board around 80-100)
256MB DDR x 2 = $76
Cost of Processor/Mobo/Memory = 304 USD
The memory bandwidth doesn't affect fpu intensive apps that much, so you could even go with a cheaper SDRAM chipset and regular PC133 memory for a good bit less, but getting DDR now will save you the upgrade later.

P4 1.7Ghz = $323
Asus P4T = 180$
256MB RDRAM x 2 = $226
Cost of Processor/Mobo/Memory = $729

Now, you could cut quite a chunk off the P4 system cost if you could get a DDR P4 platform, but then you're sacrificing much of the P4's only strength - it's massive memory bandwidth. If you're mainly into 3d rendering, Athlon is currently the way to go.

thks a lot guys..i guess AMD will be the way to go. Going to pierce the machine together in 1 mth's time, i hope by then there will be new developments for AMD though the price might be quit ehigh, but hten the current price of the 1.4 ghz may be within better reach. Any recommendation of a good Motherboard for the Tunderbirds ?

If you're waiting a month, the A7V266 may be available, not really sure on it's release dates. That looks like one of the better kt266 chipsets... faster and rock stable, and is reportedly going to be cheaper to make then other similar boards.

I'd have to say the AD 11 from FIC is a great Mobo, I have one, and it kicks ass. You gte a lot of stuff from them for OC.
