I'm getting a "Connection refused when trying to connect to...." when
trying to access checkout at some websites. Didn't used to get this..
There are probably multiple causes but I guess I need somewhere to
start Any help or suggestions appreciated.

reset your default settings in your browser.
especially the security settings, put them all back to default.
it could be you have spyware and they are intercepting your
communications, be careful.
make sure there are no strange processes running in the background!!
