Hey! Im thinking about getting a new video card and im kinda tossed up between a GF2 GTS 64mb the Radeon 64mb SE and the Kyro II. Any other cards in that range that i missed?? I like to do simulation/driving sims stuff like that. I will run it at 1024x768 at either 75 or 85hz. You'll see my system in my sig. Im not sure wether i should wait till the radeon 2 comes out and cards prices drop. I think that i may wait till i have enough money to build a whole new system. What do you think?? I kno the Kyro II is cpu dependent and ignore the GTS cuz the pro is the same price on pricewatch.

I personally don’t like the RADEON 64MB.
The DVD playback is exceptional but that’s about it.
I’m not a big gamer, but I eventually replaced the RADEON with a cheap 64MB MLI GeForce2 MX because the RADEON was locking up with Mech Warrior 4. The Geforce is more stable and has a higher frame rate.

Maybe there was something wrong with the card I had, but it wasn’t very stable in Windows 2000 either. Despite installing every driver and software patch.

- I got a board too: http://www.impactsites2000.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

I don't have any problems with stability with the Radeon 64 and it is much faster then my MX400 I have with better quality. Many factors goes into a good operating computer.

I would say that it depends on what you are really shooting for (no comments about Quake 3). If you are not in a rush, and would like to be able to play some of the really new games coming out over the next year, I would wait for the DirectX 8 parts (GeForce3, Radeon2). The problem with those is going to be waiting for them to be a resonable price. If you are looking just to bum around doing some general games here and there, I would say the best value right now is the GeForce2 MX. Asus now has a V7100 deluxe card that is pretty promising. It's basically the same as an ATi All-In-Wonder, but at ~$100 less. Then you get the whole TV-Out, TV-Tuner thing that can be quite cool. Geez, I could just go on forever.

Yea but i want something new. But i suppose i could just buy a new mp3 player and sell mine. That would give me something new to play with while vid card prices drop. Anyways my dad works for compaq computer so i can get the PA-2 cheap. So i think thats what i'll do.

It does but i just got nascar 4 and its so jumpy it drives me nuts. but i suppose im pushing the v3 1000 a little too hard. 1024x768 at high quality everything.

i suggest you
A. run your monitor as high as you can
and
B. get a geforce 2 pro... if you get a good one they can be pushed up to near Ultra levels for significantly less money.
also, if your never going to use the really high resolutions (ie stick to 1280x1024 or below) you might want to just get a 32mb version instead of the 64mb.

Ok, ill wait till the radeon 2 comes out and after the price drop comes from that. I get either the gf2 pro or the ultra if its in my price range. Maybe the 64mb se. If i get a GeForce what brands are good. Of the company's that assemble the boards what brands are good?? I kno asus is good. What about leadtek, power color, msi, and all the other cards??

u might want to look at ELSA GLADIAC cards. they have a good reputation for VGA cards and even produce industrial standard quadro-based graphic cards.

if u do not want to wait i have a '$value$' analysis done as i am in the same situation. the gts range cards are better value (forget the ati, kyro, others) but at 32 ddr instead of 64 ddr. why ? becos as discussed it depends on your monitor resolution. is 1280 x 1024 at 85 mhz enough for u ? spend the rest to buy ram which is freaking cheap now. pls correct me if i am wrong due to different locality.

also take note the new cards' prices with be unreasonable to start with. always go for the slightly older versions(often good enough) if u wanna save some cash. when the new ones comes out, the present ones will depreciate, sometimes like it is the end of the world.

Leadtek geforce2pro is ok.
might wanna avoid it if your a serious overclocker though as its got a funky core heatsink & fan combo...
then again, memory overclocking is more important by far...

as soon as i find a decent overclock control tool i will give mine a push to see what it does.

and the winfox control config looks funky, but doesnt really do much more than normal.

wait for the radeon 2... prices will drop ...

then ... if you need to watch tv but don't have room for a tv get the all in wonder radeon .. if you have no need for a tv-tuner get the geforce 3.. by then the card should be at the 250 - 300 range or the Radeon 2 ... wait for benchmarks to compare the geforce 3 with the radeon 2 also...

My sig is better then your's!

From what I read, a Radeon2 and Geforce 3 will probably not be very far apart on FPS, but it looks like the features on the new Radeon will be the deciding factor on whether a person buys one or the other. Besides, only Bud here can see a difference betwwen 50 FPS and 100.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

I would get the Radeon 64MB SE. It runs great on my 700MHz/i815e computer. I get an almost constant 85fps on UT. Probably higher if I turn off vsync for d3d.

Yea thats what i'll probably get. I'll wait till the radeon 2 comes out and get it when the price goes down after they come out.
