Okay now's here what's going on I had in Windows 2000 professional machine I
upgraded the machine to XP professional no service packs. I go to
Microsoft's update web site and try to download the updates so I can install
the update service pack two. But I keep getting an update the same update I
install it and it just keeps telling me hasn't been installed free downloads
it and I reinstall it but will not be installed. It seems to be an update
for Windows 2000 not Windows XP.

Secondly new plug-and-play devices are installing Windows 2000 drivers and
not XP drivers and when I go to device manager they are not working properly
and the device manager says no drivers installed so I go to reinstall the
drivers but again after installing the drivers the drivers are not installed
the machine does not recognize these drivers even when I'm manually choose XP
drivers the machine will not recognize any new drivers.

Lastly I have a user administrator account with my name but a computer keeps
booting to the administrator account named administrator and not my name. I
thought that this account was only supposed to be available if there was no
other accounts or during safe mode boots. I cannot get the computer to boo
to my screen name I have to log off and then all the screen names are visible
the administrator screen name, my screen name with administrator privileges,
and guest and only then can logon under my screen name. I did not set up the
administrator account is the account that comes when you install Windows I
would like to logon under my screen name the screen name I set up with my
name and administrator privileges. Thank you

The logon has been set to not remember the last user., and defaults to Administrator because of a setting for that.

start/run, type: control userpasswords2
check the ...use a password... option

Not much to do for drivers that don't work for some device. Find a compatible driver. (see the Windows Update site)

You cannot install some updates or programs: Go to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822798&Product=winxp
