Hey everyone, I desperately need your help. I am trying to
build a computer and I am having a lot of troubles. The
problem is this. When I installed Windows ME, everything
appeared to be running fine. I shut it down after
installing all my drivers and what not. the next morning,
I started it up again and I got the blue screen of death,
saying that windows encountered an error. I turned off the
computer and tried again. Same thing. My chances lately
of getting the computer to actually boot up have been about
1 in 7 everytime I turn it on.When I use the startup disk,
my chances of the computer not freezing usually are 1 in
8. Please let me know if you have anysuggestions.

Thanks
Tom

Try a clean format and a clean install of Windows ME again. There's a chance (albeit a small one) that some file got corrupted during your initial installation; So start with the easiest solution (i.e. try again) and work your way up.

Does M$ Win ME have save mode and single step modes? If so see if the system will start up in safe mode or single step and see at what point the system locks up.

If you get the system up check Start/settings/control panel/system/device manager for driver conflicts. If the system dies take out all unnessary hardware like sound, modem, cd/dvd, hd, nic, etc. and boot from a floppy. If that works add the hd and see if that will boot. Next add the cd and try to load ME with everything else out. Add hardware one thing at a time and check the system in between each item. Good luck!
