About 2 months ago I upgraded to:
Athlon 1333
256 megs of PC2100 DDR Ram
A7M266 Asus Motherboard
My existing GeForce256 card gave me BIGTIME problems with this system: Windows errors, failed installed, lockups during games, and the occasional BSOD.
At the time, I had a friend who let me try out his GeForce2 GTS card, and that acted up even more than the other card did. Then I threw in an old Voodoo3 3000, and it ran just fine with not one problem.
I recently bought a 64meg ATi Radeon (which I totally love), and as long as the AGP is set to 2x, it runs perfect.
Does anyone know of these issues with Nvidia's cards and AMD's chipsets? What's really frustrating is I see TomsHardware and even other sites spewing out all these benchmarks using the EXACT same setup that I had!...even down to using Windows2000 Pro (which is what I use) on some of those benchmarks. It eats me alive! I want to know HOW in the hell they got it all to work! I applied every patch I could find from AMD, Asus and Microsoft, but none of it would get those GeForce cards to run.
I also have friends who have AMD CPU's and their GeForce cards won't run either. Only one of my friends systems works, but that's out of 5. 1 of 5...that's not a good ratio.
I guess I'm asking if anyone has any clue on this issue, or why it happens. Is there a fix? How did Tom's Hardware get those benchmarks off of the same system that locked upon immediately starting a game for me? AND, does the GeForce3 have these issues as well?
I'm dying for some info....Thanks in advance!
