I've tried everything from shuting down everything not needed at boot up,
isabling DEP and doing a repair install of XP on this month old Dell 8400
but still getting IE errors and shutdowns of IE.. I really would like to
find the problem without having to do a fresh install of XP.. any ideas what
the problem could be, below is the error file saved from a IE shutdown..
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

Well, it's obviously a Java problem. Go to www.java.com and *download*,
not on-line install, the latest java runtime. Then from Add/Remove
Programs, remove the existing Java before running the installer locally.
Run Disk Cleanup for temp files and temp internet files. Open IE, Tools
menu, Manage Add-ons. Disable all of the add-ons and reboot. Now
re-enable each add-on, restart IE, and note where the error occurs. The
last add-on enabled is likely the problem.

It looks like something you installed (Java) is causing the software issue.
Nothing wrong with your Dell hardware.

We had an 8400 in the office that did the same thing. We returned it.
My coworker has the same problem with Outlook, he is living with it
after going through tech support hell for 3 weeks.
I wish you luck!!

Tried uninstalling Java with no avail... Every time I try to uninstall it or
try to reinstall the full offline downloaded version from www.java.com I get
the following message.
"Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.
This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows
Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for

I smell file corruption/damage from a hijack/spyware/or adware source.
I also feel like this is heading for a Windows XP repair, but I could be
wrong.

S.Lewis, it's a month old Dell 8400, I have McAfee AV & Firewall , MS
Antispyware and AdAware since day one so I kinda find it hard to believe it
is spyware but file coruption sounds very likely.. Ran XP repair last week
with no help...
Hate to do a format reinstall of XP but it sure seems I'm heading that
direction...

Paul,
So you're saying, in effect, that the machine is clean. Hm.
No nasty installs/uninstalls/or reinstalls of programs before this cropped
up?
Been backing up your files? Probably a good idea just in case.
If there are no obvious software causes, you might want to run the custom
diags off the Resource CD (or they can be downloaded) and see if there's a
possible hardware cause for the damage/corruption. That is certainly
possible.
Heck, even a Windows clean install could help identify any hardware failure
by ruling out software.

have you tried going to a restore point?

Well I got it uninstalled, Windows Installer was turned off.. Uninstalled
Java and reinstalled with a offline manual install of the newest Java and
still got errors.. Even disabled it in Manage Add ons and received error..
only thing running in IE was Macro Media.. going to try disabling that now
and see if we can through the day without error.. doubting it though...
