I just bought a Hercules 3D Prophet 3 and everytime I try to launch a 3D app, Windows freezes and I have to reset. This includes Direc3D/DirectX games, the demos that came with the video card, and even dxdiag.exe!

I have an Asus a7a266 mb with athlon 1.2ghz and all the drivers and BIOS are updated

Thanks in advance!

Hum we really need more info than that, please post system specs, O/S, drivers, etc.

It's known that you need the latest BIOS for the A7A266 to run stable. I think you should do that first if you haven't. Then install the 12.90 driver for your GF3, it performs the best with Athlon processors. Have you installed the AGP driver yet? That could also be a problem..

I've managed to get it working, I changed some BIOS settingsI put it on 1x AGP and disable fast write, not sure which one did it, though, I will experiment further to pinpoint the problem and post it here so that it may help any other users

BIOS is flashed, got AGP drivers for Ali, windows 2000 SP2, my nvidia drivers are 12.41, these are the latest that I got on the Hercules site, I wasn't aware there was a more recent version of the drivers...

Turn off the fast writes only, I run Win2K on my 1333/512DDR/GF3 etc in 4x AGP without problems.

This also works for Win ME where freezes occur (tested personally).

This is more than likely the Win2k/Athlon bug. There is a known issue with Athlon processors running win2k that there is sometimes data corruption between the cpu and agp bus. There is a simple registry entry patch to fix it though.

I had a similar problem with my GF3 and it fixed me right up.
