I bought a PRESARIO SR4000/CND51906RS with XP in it from FRY's about a month
and a half ago, now i get a warning from MICROSOFT about the validity of my
OP. Obviously COMPAQ suggests that i do a complete RESTORE with the original
CD (that would be my last option). When querying microsoft about my product
ID validation they would charge 35 bucks just to read my issue --INSANE !!!-

Just by calling COMPAQ my laptop has become registered but the problem
stills exists. MICROSOFT is ready to shutdown my laptop pretty soon if i
dont validate my "pirate" software with them.
is there a link where I can validate my OP. or any other ideas?
thanks

Windows Update problems should be posted into newsgroup ** microsoft.public.windowsupdate **
This link is for your Outlook Express
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

It is extremely aggravating when a legitimate XP gets tagged like this. Repost your question at Windows Update group because this has to do with that process & the new Windows Genuine Advantage.

Launch Internet Explorer and from the Toolbar select:
Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Objects.
Right-click on each item denoted as "Windows Genuine
Advantage Validation Tool" and select "Remove".

Afterward, revisit the Windows Update web site.

The Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation check process
does not complete when you try to validate your copy of Windows XP
or Windows 2000 Professional
