Hello, I have a question regarding port 21. Recently, my friend tried to send me a file via ICQ but it failed to deliver. So I install Bulletproof FTP server software so that he can upload the file to me. When I tried to connect the FTP server, it said fail to connect server, port 21 is in use. What does that mean? I tried open and close port 21 but still getting the same message. I'm using Linksys router w/4 ports switch.

Thanks in advance.

It might mean it's in use on the other computer, not sure. You can always goto a command prompt and do a "net stat" and see if anything is on port 21.

use "netstat -a" to see all ports in use

Thanks for the feedbacks guys. I really appreciate it. CALV, I tried to get FTP server online, I click on the "connect" icon, that's when I get the port 21 in use message.

what OS are you running? If NT/2K/XP do you possibly already have a default ftp server running? Try ftp-ing to yourself and see if it responds.

I'm running w2k workstation. I'll try that. Thanks

Good point, IIS is probably running (you may want to ensure you have the 2k updates or you may end up with .eml attatchments all over the place.........)

I'll try a patch for w2k. Bulletproof is the only FTP server that I have installed. Thanks again
