O.K., I have been reading posts for over an hour, forgive me if this has been
answered. I have several programs I want to remove from the startup so they
don't start when windows starts.

There is no option in the program itself to turn it off.
When I deselect in msconfig, the computer reboots and they "re-select"
themselves.
When I go to the startup folder on the menu, these programs are not listed.
When I go to the startup through windows explore, they are not listed.
I did a search while in windows explore, nothing.
I checked the file location within msconfig, it says they are located at
HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run and you guessed it, when I
go there, the programs are not listed.

These are programs like office, real player, roxio cd creator....

I hope someone can help as I am at a loss. Thank you in advance!

If you're using msconfig to accomplish this then you should see
"Selective Startup" as the active selection on the General
page. If you change this to "Normal Startup" any items you
unchecked would be restored.

Here are a couple of free utilities that will allow you to
exercise some control over which programs load at startup:

Autoruns

Startup Control Panel

No, I expected to see selective startup, but that never came up. I didn't
hit the normal startup, so I don't know how or why it does that. But!!! The
Startup Control Panel is a very nice utility! Easy to operate and it does
the trick.

Thank you!
