I am looking to upgrade my Alienware M17x R4 from a 1600x900 screen to a 1920x1080 screen FHD. It looks washed out and not very good. I'm not looking to get a 3d screen but had a few questions because Dell wants to charge $600 for a new screen! and I already know its cheaper to customize while you are purchasing from Dell (please don't remind me)

1)
Is it hard to replace just the LCD panel to the screen without the chassis and bezel? Ive read that it is kind of hard to do. I found this for the R3 though and cheap!.

There is a video that makes it look fairly easy

2) Obviously next question is will the R3 version work on my R4? I cant seem to find the R4 version anywhere :(  I've read some websites that say it does and some say it doesnt.

3) Will this item from ebay work, and will it be easier for me to replace than buying the LCD screen itself? Once again it is the R3 Version.

If someone owns or knows about replacing Alienware screens could shed some information on me I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi :)

I own a Laptop repair company in the UK, we change hundreds of screens a year...

If you came in one of my shops with a DIFFERENT screen to the one fitted, and INSISTED we change it, we would charge you an hours labour, and tell you that you had AROUND A 10% CHANCE OF IT WORKING....

All the best Brett :)

Changing screens is easy. remove the bezel, unscrew 4 screws holding the screen on. Remove bracket from old screen and install on new screen. screw the 4 screws back in, replace bezel. And obviously unplug the old screen and plug in the new one. Watch a tear down vid of an r4 on you tube and compare the connector to yours.
