Okay, I have a simple problem.

Explorer doesn't run. So I have no Start-Bar, or desktop items. (I do,
however, get to see my background) Originally, we opened Task Manager and
manually started Explorer from there. Now, Task Managar will open, but not
stay open. (darn you viruses...)

So, here's my question:

How do I get Explorer to run without using Task Manager?

or

How do I get my reinstallation disk to run? (again, can't use Task Manager,
or Command Prompt, or whatever)

Explorer doesn't run.

Meaning no Start menu to select from.

Not Internet Explorer, but the basic Explorer process itself. Without
Explorer, it is really hard to use "Start>run>explorer.exe"

What I need to do is achieve the same goal without using "Start" at all, or
Task Manager.

I don't think your problem is simple. You're likely loaded with spyware
and/or viruses. Disconnect your computer from the internet. Find someone
who can download an antivirus program, Spybot Search and Destroy,
HijackThis, AdAware, and Spyware Blaster for a start. Install these
programs on your computer. Clean your temp files, IE cache and uninstall
unused programs. Restart your computer in SAFE MODE and run all these
programs you downloaded and installed. In fact, run them a couple of times.
When all is clean, restart normally, connect to the internet, download the
latest updates for these programs, and run them again. Restart your
computer in SAFE MODE and then run all these programs again.

When clean, regularly use an anti-virus program and a firewall. Let us
know.

Your re-installation disk should be bootable. Have you tried to boot with
it?
