If I opened a document form a disc and accidently saved it over a document on
my desktop is there a way to recover the original document that was on the
desktop before I saved over it?

None, unless you backed up the original document. Sorry about that.

It may be possible using specialist software like GetDataBack (available
over the Internet). BUT you would have to pay (about £39) and it would only
work if the original file has not been overwritten.

Why are you saving files on the desktop. It would much better to save them
in a discrete folder.

I had the document on my desktop as a shortcut and I would just open it make
changes save and close it. My secretary saved somehting from her computer on
a disk put it on my computer and now all of my shortcut documents are erased
back to Feb. The only thing I can figure is the info on the disk was from
Feb. and there fore she said over my information on the shortcut. The changes
I had made to the shortcut and saved and closed is the information I am
trying to retrieve. Do you know if there is a way to do this?
