Hey everyone! I was wondering why nobody has ever made a REAL 128-bit DDR PCI card. It would kickass in the PCI market and is it that difficult to make? AGP is the majority of the market, but the PCI people still don't mind having a fast video card.

I'm assuming you mean that the RAM is 128-bit DDR, not that the slot itself is?

exactly. =) sorry about the misunderstanding. 128-bit DDR. Don't you guys all agree on having having better PCI graphics for the people who DON'T WANT TO PURCHASE NEW MOTHERBOARDS?

I don't. A motherboard would have to be rather old to not have an AGP slot, and a you can get a good motherboard and Duron at Fry's for $100 or less. In fact, look at this. Supports DDR&SDRAM, onboard audio, ATA66/100, 5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 AMR, etc. Tell them you saw it on PriceWatch and it's only $99.

Anyhow, what about Radeons? There are DDR PCI Ati's.

DDR on a Radeon PCI would be almost pointless, as it already has a 128-bit memory path being fed by a pathetic 33MHz 32-bit PCI slot. The data being fed to the graphics core is already too slow, the graphics core sits there simply waiting for it. The graphics core can only work with data as fast as it receives it. Adding a faster data path upstream of the data core is like running inside a schoolbus...your not going to get there any faster!

Regarding my last post-maybe it's like putting two leaky buckets under a faucet that can't even fill up one one of them!

Doesn't the Radeon All-in-Wonder have DDR memory? It comes in a PCI flavor.

update:

Sorry about that. I just checked Pricewatch. It seems the PCI All-in-Wonder has SDR while the AGP version has DDR.

yer right...but that all in wonder is 250 bux... wutta jip for extra connectors i will never use for gaming purposes.... just need a plain board like the Radeon 32mb SDR features but with DDR mem. That would rock and be like 150 bucks

Ok, server boards hardly count (such as Xeons, Athlon MPs). I'm talking about home users. And only a very few OEMs use boards with integrated graphics and no AGP slot.

Guess there aren't any DDR PCI Ati's. Someone will pay for this. They're advertising it that way on PriceWatch.
