Hello knowledgable people, please indulge my ignorance for a few lines :)

Needing a graphics card to go into my new board but with money constraints my sights finally settled on a Geforce 2 Pro. Good performance and within my price range, but i know didly about the difference in manufacturers.

Any recommendations ?

Thanks in advance

ive got a Leadtek geforce2pro
its pretty good and has a decent overclock to it.

Gainward apparently make very good cards. and usually are one of the best for overclocking.

as for the rest i dont really have to much experience with.
each one varies with quality of components used, addons, and included apps & games.

im sure toms hardware has a review... either with the geforce2, pro or ultra.

I also suggest leadtek. It can be overclocked that can compete with ultra.

One thing u must becareful, check the memory speed. I saw somewhere, that it come with 5.5, which is for gts.

Well now, thats very interesting :)
The leadtek card i had seen was the cheapest of the bunch, and seeing as i hadnt heard of leadtek before i assumed they didnt have much of a reputation to speak of, but ill go research that now.

Thanks

Hmm you are quite correct Oct 7, the leadtek gf2 pro does indeed have 5.5 memory, while their GTS version has 6.0

What does this mean for a layman like myself ?

eh?

What i know is that, gf2 pro should have 5ns (200MHz).

Well what i meant is would there be a notable difference in performance between a card with 5.5 and a card with 5.0 ?

But the various reviews i have read regarding the card are all fairly good, and the price tips the scale for me.

Damn....this is friday. The company does next day delivery but not at the weekend, now i gotta wait til monday. poo poo.

=(

Well anyway, thanks again.

I think so. If i'm not wrong, 5.5 memory will give u less than 200MHz, I think it should be 166. Then, because it is DDR, the final result is 333. compare to 200MHz, the final result is 400. And, with faster memory, u can oc it to optimum. I think with 5.5 memory, u wouldn't get 480MHz. At most is, 400 something. Faster memory, always give u better display quality.

Well, my Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 Ultra has 4ns memory good for 300/500+. Costs a bit, but I think you can get an Ultra for $130's if you shop around (I paid $242 just last month!). Leadtech is big now as a video card maker and has good driver support. Look for a company that has been around for a bit. The Pro cards can be OC'd to match an unOC'd Ultra. So there you go.

well my version of the geforce2pro has stock speeds of
200/400 (core/ddr)
and i can overclock safely to
225/465. not too shabby

extra note:

if i can get my memory to 465 Mhz (232)
then it definately is not 5.5ns or i suspect even 5.0ns.
i.e.
5.5ns memory is rated at 183Mhz (200 overclocked maybe)
5.0ns is rated at 200mhz...
an overclock to 232 is a tad excessive unless it is real good 5ns stuff.

I'm not sure about the accountability of the site though. But, I read from threads here, that if u provide a good cooler to the memory, u can oc it higher. Anyone that expert in this field can give any opinion?

Thx
