i recently replaced my TNT2 with an MSI GeForce2 Pro my problem is the that the increase in performane is not what i expected here are my PC specs:
PIII 866MHz Overclocked to 910MHz with pefect stability
128MB PC133 RAM
Gigabyte GA-6vm7a+ mainboard with AGP 2x
MSI GeForce2 PRO (64Mb DDR)
with my old TNT2 M64 i get 1100 marks in 3D Mark 2001
with the GF2 Pro i get 2500 with my CPU @866 (defult speed) and 2700 3D Marks when OC @ 910MHz. i tried reinstaling windows, using new drivers but nothing works so far.my friend has a 1GHz PIII with MSI mainboard and the same amount of ram and he gets 3700 3D Marks using the same card and the same driver(12.41).
whats wrong with my PC,is my less than year old CPU too slow?

Actually 2500 is pretty much the normal score for your setup. Have you tried the online result browser for 3DMark 2K1? It'll show that you're running average. I also have a PIII866, but when I overclock my GTS I can hit up to 2870, but that's as high as I can get it. I don't know how your friend is hitting the 3700, but keep in mind that 2K1 is much more processor dependent then 2K.

Oh yeah, one more thing, make sure you guys are both running the default benchmarks. A friend and I were running different resolutions and our different scores baffled the hell out of us. Brain farts, eh? You could also try posting to the MadOnion.com forums, those guys will usually help you fry your machine to the best of your ability.

thanks for the replay :)
we are both using the default benchmark.i know its normal that he gets beter scores than mine because his CPU is faster but keep in mind that my CPU is overclocked to 910MHz so its not that big of a differnce or is it?
what i am suspecting is the chipset .my mobo has a VIA and his mobo has an Intel chipset.how do i tweak my bios for maximum performance?were both using WIN ME

Here's my detailed setup for you to consider:

Intel 815E Motherboard
Intel P3 866MHz
256MB CAS3 RAM from Crucial running at CAS2
VisonTek Geforce2 GTS 64MB
IBM 75GXP 45GB

I'm going to assume a very similar setup for you, since you said that you were running an 866. You also said in your original post that you ran the benchmark non-OC'd. Looking at the online result browser right now, I can see that 2500 is sort of low for the PIII866, you should be averaging around 2700. As for your friends score of 3500 with his PIII1000, well...that's just damned impressive. The browser shows most people at that score only after completely overclocking the hell out of their GeForces.

So...I agree that your scores are a tad on the low side, but those things can be changed through better optimization of your system. Tom had posted a good article about bios tweaking, you can also try using cache management programs like Cacheman. As a further check, make sure you guys are both running the same core and memory clocks on the GeForce cards. I reached 2870 only after putting the clock up to 220 and the memory at 370. They used to go higher, but alas, I think this card is getting tired ;)  Good luck on reaching a higher score.

One more thing, are you using the newest VIA 4in1 drivers?
