can i send my "fix it " with an ethernet cable from one laptop to another>

You would need a crossover cable, which looks the same as a standard ethernet cable with a couple of the pins changed. It would take a lot of configuration. transferring it via USB, or even burning to CD would be easier.

Since nearly every laptop has a gigabit ethernet port today, you don't need a crossover cable any longer. The ports will handle it for you. Assuming you have winXP or higher on the machines, just make sure, they share the same workgroup name (right click on the computer icon / properties). Plug the cable in, restart both machines and click on network in explorer. You should see the public folders on the other machine.
