Hi there.

Just picked up my Athlon 1.4 today. I've got an Asus 8200 Geforce 3 in it, and when I tried to run 3DMark 2001, it freezes. When I run the benchmark I get to the first Dragothic benchmark (and it freezes at close to the same place each time, but not exactly the same). When I ran the demo I got to the bit where it's got the pretty trees. I rebooted as fast as I could to check the temps (using the SmartDoctor utility that comes with the card) and it showed ~55 degrees celsius GPU temperature (which is about the same as when it was idle - could be cooling down while I reboot...).

Is this a heat problem? Is this a graphics card problem? Any help would be... well... helpful! =)

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

by the way, I was running this under Windows 98. I'm about to try it under Win2k. If the results are different I'll post here.

Okay, I just finished running it under Win2k. I did get farther (to the first nature benchmark), but it did freeze. It's not responding at all (no ctrl-alt-delete, power button does nothing).

Agh! I just bought this machine - didn't think heat would be a problem _out_of_the_box_.

Still looking for your thoughts.

... In my Asus Information panel, I am surprised to see

BUS Type: AGP 4X (Current Rate: Off)

all the time. Anybody know what's going on here?

I have an MSI K7T266Pro-R motherboard.

Nevermind. I just installed the VIA drivers and everything's hunky-dorey. My bad! =)
