I made some benchmarks in the same computer (a Tb 800@933 -133x7 - 256/133 ram on a MSI K7T Turbo-R) with the Kyro II (hercules 4500) and the Radeon 32MB SDRAM running 3dmark2k and 3dmark2k1 and the results were very strange. The radeon was o/c to 180/180 with powerstrip and texture compression was on in both cards:

3d Mark 2000 (default test - 1024x768x16)
Kyro II : 5081
Radeon 32MB SDRAM : 4891
kyro only 4% faster

3d Mark 2001 (default test - 1024x768x32)

Kyro II: 1873
Radeon 32SDRAM: 2587

Radeon 38% faster

I tried to o/c the kyro but anything above 175 (default is 173) was presenting artifacts. The radeon is o/c to 180/180 with no artifacts and i am planning to see how high i can get it to run.

So is it the T&L engine that makes the difference? I play Falcon 4.0 alot and i saw around 40% more fps with the radeon with the same settings. And the Hercules 4500 has 32 more mb of ram!! (i play 1024 and 1280 resolution only)

One last thought. The Radeon 64DDR has 183 stock clock. The SDRAM has the same gpu as the DDR model so if i o/c it to 183 i have the same gpu in performance as the DDR and the only difference is the memory? Does the 64DDR o/c so well as the SDRAM model?

Thanks for your replies

Well that just makes the LE an even better deal!

Radeons are made to shine in 32 bit, most cards drop off heavily when you go from 16- 32 bit, but the radeon hardly at all.

Thank you very little!

I am still overclocking and now the card is at 190/190 without any artifacts or any other sigh of trouble. Scores in 3dm2k is 5132 and in 3dm2k is 2712. Hope i can hit 200!!

Also will i see artifacts when the card will start having heat problems or the memory/gpu will start reaching their limits or the card will suddenly "blow up" when i put it in a clock speed that it cannot handle? I upped the clock by 5 MHz until 190 and now i plan to test every 3MHz.

I know i am posting in the wrong board but since the thread started here....

The Kyro Board is very dependent on the CPU, so at 933, it will preform slower than at, lets say, 1500. The people who are geeting high scores on the Kryo Board all have fast processors, hence the reason that the Kryo is betting the Radeon on those boards. With a low proceesor, the Radeons and Geforce of this world will clean the Kryo's pipes, s their preformance is not so heavily influenced by the CPU. With Radoen's superoir 32 bit performance drop from 16 bit (in some cases, the Radeon actually runs better in 32 bit than 16 bit)it also takes home the bacon in this catagory.

If it works for you then don't fix it.
