Win9x (win95, 98 and ME) have trouble handling more than 512 mb of ram and maybe the 768 mb is the cause of the trouble. Have u tried winNT or win2000? Try using 512mb and see if this solves the problem.

Have you tried win2k or the 512 ram or both?

*nasty flashback again*

may i strongly suggest something?

ive just done a complete windows resinstall because there were too many bugs and issues.

one of the important things i did during this reinstall was to
!NOT! install directx8
NOT install via 4in1's
NOT install agp patch

you see i have an asus a7v133 too
and a leadtek winfast geforce2pro on win2k.
using certain detonator drivers i too was getting really CRAP 3dmark scores... around 1100.
interestingly it was only happening in direct3d, not openGL.
but openGL was corrupt in 32bit mode anyway.

after i reinstalled i have
bios 1005A
win2k
sp2
win2k native directx (7.0)
detonators 12.41.
latest sound blaster live drivers.

and thats all!
u know what? its working great so far!

so my strong advice to you is to do a clean reinstall, and only install the bare minimum.
only update to via 4in1 or agp patch or directx8 if absolutely necessary
