im trying to do a fresh install of xp and reformat in the process. Im not getting a reformat option when im using the setup wizard on the install cd. i tried deleting the partition xp was on but it wouldnt let me as that is where the current os is installed. what am i doing wrong and can anybody help me. thanks.

Hmmm, that's odd that you're getting that problem. Go to <A HREF="http://www.bootdisk.com" target="_new">bootdisk.com</A> and get a winME startup disk. Boot from that, type fdisk at the prompt and delete your partition from there. Then reboot, take the floppy out and put the cd in. You should be good to go from there.

MY mistake. I wasn't booting from the cd drive. Did that and it worked fine.
