I have a Tbird 800@933 and a radeon 32sdr and i will buy a tbird 1400 in few days. Should i replace the sdr with a radeon 64ddr retail? Is the performance difference between these two big? I am afraid that the games will be limited by the vga and that they will not take full advantage of the superior cpu. Waiting for the radeon 8500 is out of the question because it will be to expensive for my wallet :(

If youve got $200 bucks for a radeon 64 ddr, I would save up for a couple of more months and get the 8500 or the 7500, I believe the 8500 is going to hit at about $400, anyhow when the 7500 and 8500 hit the radeon 64 ddr prices should drop off nicely.

Thank you very little!

If you're already at 933mhz I would buy a video card before a new processor if on a budget. Improving video speed improves game performance to a greater degree than increasing clock speed. Of course it depends, on how much video improvement you provide. I don't know how much improvement you get with the Radeon 64mb DDR. However, you are getting a faster clocked GPU and a faster memory and the memory is DDR. You'll probably notice a big difference. Read Tom's article on scaling to see how a faster graphics card is more important than a faster CPU. Geforce cards were used but you'll get the idea.

If you can wait longer there is a second consideration. Even if you can't afford an 8500, its release should drive down the prices of the original Radeons.

Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

Two vendors listed on pricewatch have an ETA in September for the 8500.
