Would anyone here be able to help me by giving me advice on getting Counterstrike to run over a shared internet conncetion?
I'm using Wingate 3.0.1 on Win2k and got it running browsers fine. I think I have to open new TCP ports or something..some help would be much appreciated.
If you have an old copy of Halflife and like action team based shooters then give CS a try. Make sure you update Halflife to the latest version before installing CS.
is your shared connection dsl or cable? also, are you using dhcp? if your're using a cable/dsl router (like the very popular linksys one) you prolly won't be able to game online with both machines at the same time because they will be "seen" as having the SAME ip by the WON authentification servers. This does NOT affect surfing the web at the same time. my dsl connection does NOT use dhcp (uses NAT), so what I did was setup the 2nd pc with the same subnet-mask/dns-entries/gateway as the "main" pc hooked to the internet. then, I just configured the ip of the 2nd pc to be in the same subnet as the main pc. for example, if the "main" pc's ip is 24.65.129.44, then I give the 2nd pc the same # except the last digits are 43 (or 45,34,54 etc - whatever works for ya - but not 44). this worked for me & now we both play CS on same server (if we want) at same time. I don't believe this will work on a dhcp enabled system unless 3rd party software is used.
