so having a geforce256 increased ur 3dmark
No, as I mentioned, I got a score of 950 and a year later I am getting 1914, all with the same Geforce256. My point is, that new drivers and a lot more knowledge got me the signifcantly better score.
In addition to new drivers these are things that made my scores better. PC133 memory. It's still clocked at 100mhz but is much more stable than my pre-PC100 memory. The new memory also allows more aggressive memory timings, CAS2, 4-way interleave, turbo timing, etc. I also used 256mb vs. 96mb. I'm using a beefier 300watt, ATX PSU compared to the origin 235 watt AT unit. This makes the troublesome, power hungry Geforce256 more stable. Mostly though, the new drivers made the biggest speed improvement.
how does adventure games(max payne if u played it) run in ur pc at high detail?
I don't play games on the K6-2. I just threw it back together to see if I could improve on my old benchmarks. The Geforce256 is now back in my Duron system.
As for Max Payne there is no way that my K6-2 system could handle it with high detail. My Duron at 1007mhz just manages 30 frames per second framerates with the Max Payne demo. That with LOD all at high except 16-bit textures (vs 32-bit), no antialiasing, no anisotropy. That's at 1024x768, 32-bit colors. Dropping down to 800x600 raises the framerates to a whopping 35. Both resolution's are playable, barely.
A new video card is not going to do much for you K6-2. It won't be signifcantly faster at the resolution you are using (maybe a little faster). The rest of the system is the limiting factor. More tweaking may help there.
As for a new system, you are obviously on a budget (like me). If you can, go for a 900mhz Athlon instead of the 800mhz Duron. Even overclocked to 1000mz, a Duron is only equal to an 800-850mhz Athlon in performance. The 900mhz Athlon is definitely worth the $15-20 increase. Better still, get a 1ghz Athlon if you can. I realize that they are about $50 more than a 800mhz Duron but they are a great value because they are very overclockable.
Good luck.
Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.
